I. O MEIGO. VISGO. MUERDAGO. MISTLETOE. VISCUM ALBUM.
The plant
Mistletoe in ancient times was used by the druids of the Celtic world. It is a parasitic, invasive plant that lives in the treetops. It is considered magical and divine because if it is born in the heavens, it has the power of the gods. In Spain, in the past, it was used to hunt birds. Its fruits are sticky and can be used as traps for small birds. At Christmas, it is used to decorate doors and windows because they attract luck. They catch everything bad and after the cycle of the year is over, it is burned and replenished with another sprig of fresh mistletoe. It is from the Viscaceae family. It is a species native to Europe and western and southern Asia and with a Eurasian distribution (Europe, including Great Britain, from Scandinavia in the south and east to North Africa, Central Asia, and Japan).

It is a flower that grows in abandoned cultivation fields and roadsides. Its small flowers can also be pink. I chose it for the empress because it is a very elegant flower that looks like a white lace mantle. In fact, in English it is called Queen Anne's lace. It is a plant that favors biodiversity because its flowers are rich in nectar and pollen and attract many insects and birds. From the Umbellifer family. Its origin is in Europe, but its distribution is in North Africa, North America, and part of Asia

The flower
The cypress is named after Pliny the Elder, the Latin naturalist, who comments that there were homes where a cypress branch could be found at the doors as a sign of mourning. In Catalonia, the use of cypresses was in the gardens of Roman villas, which was said to be a symbol of hospitality. At the botanical level, it is considered a plant endowed with green superpower intelligence, since it is capable of expelling oxygen in case of fire. So, it is a great plant ally that can be useful in fire barriers. The Aristolochia Baetica. The name comes from the Greek word’s aristos ("that is useful") and locheia ("birth") for its ancient use in helping with childbirth, women's rules or used anciently and in ritual against the sexual impotence of the men. It also had abortifacient medicinal use. But it is a toxic and poisonous plant. A recent study, by sequencing the complete genome, determines that it is carcinogenic and causes DNA alterations. All these flowers and plants that I mention are the favorites in culinary, medicinal, and spiritual uses. All are traditional and ancestral, let's say they are the 5 most used plants. For this reason, they are considered magical due to the number of positive properties. Rosemary is one of the best-known Mediterranean plants. It was already used in ancient times as a sahumerium for home purification rituals. Lavender is also found in the Mediterranean, used more than 500 years ago by the ancient Egyptians for their mummification process. Sage is also found in the Mediterranean. Pliny the elder relates it to healing or saving. Mint also linked to the Mediterranean, with a refreshing aroma, was already used by the Greeks to make purifying and strengthening baths for the body. Basil traveled the spice route until it reached Europe, so it has an Asian origin. Plinio was convinced that the seeds had aphrodisiac power. Although all these plants are found in the Mediterranean climate, they have been distributed throughout the world and they mostly like temperate climates with sun exposure.
VI. OS NAMORADOS. ROSA. ROSA. FLOR DE LA PASIÓN. PASSIFLORA INCARNATA

In my process of drawing this card the intention was to draw a rose without claiming to be one species or another. Throughout all the editions, I have subtly changed the colors. And when it comes to defining the variant, I have found that there are more than 30 thousand from various hybridizations in all these centuries. The rose belongs to the Rosaceae family, and we can classify them as wild (those that exist in Nature), hybrid tea or old (varieties of roses prior to 1867) and modern roses (varieties of roses after 1867). The rose is of Asian origin from 4 thousand years before Christ and its meaning has always been attributed to love. The incarnata passionflower is from the Passifloraceae family.
